We’d make fun of how seriously the newscasters took themselves, and then during commercials we’d make up stories, like a report about a woman who lost a sock in a Laundromat or a guy who was on trial for killing roaches. My dad would act them out, totally hamming it up, and I’d be hysterical. My favorite was his imitation of this guy who did the weather on a local channel. My dad called him Hair Plugs because he had these sprouts of hair over the crown of his head that he was constantly running his hands through as he spoke in a syrupy voice about incoming storms.
